Antiques Etc, founded in 1999, imports and retails predominantly antique and vintage furniture and collectables, and is situated at 8 Kramer road, in the design district of Kramerville, Sandton, Johannesburg, South Africa.

 

The bigger part of the furniture on offer at Antiques Etc is vintage furniture, rather than antique furniture, as antique furniture by definition should strictly speaking be over 100 years old.  The vintage furniture that form the bulk of the merchandise available at Antiques Etc, is on average 60 - 80 years old, and originate from the rural parts of China, rather than the cities.  As such, the furniture items are more rustic in appearance than its city counterparts would be. Ceramics are predominantly new. 

Some styles of Eastern antique furniture have become very scarce in the last 3 - 5 years. In such cases, Antiques Etc imports some reproductions of antique furniture, always making a clear distinction between reproduction and antique or vintage items.

 

Sourcing predominantly from mainland China, all furniture items get individually selected before restoration and each item restored according to specification, always whilst preserving the patina of age as far as possible.   Brassware on furniture is more often than not, new, as the original brassware on vintage furniture is normally in such bad repair as to make it impossible to restore.
